Success Story: 7R Coffee Processing

Cipriano “Jun” Basco was a simple coffee farmer who occasionally engages in coffee trading before he became a coffee processor in 2011. Using small financial assistance from a lending firm, he decided to pursue coffee processing despite his self-doubts in his capacity as a coffee farmer. He read and researched coffee processing, and attended various seminars of DTI Sultan Kudarat on product development and business management. He also enrolled in one of DTI’s programs, the Kapatid Mentor Micro-Enterprise Program where he finished with distinction on  Best Business Improvement Plan (BIP) presenter. 

In 2017, his coffee branded as ‘’7R Coffee” was awarded champion Robusta Coffee in "KAPE SOCCSKSARGEN: Coffee Cup Quality Competition" during the SOCCSKSARGEN Coffee Congress cum Festival in 2017 tagging him as one of the best coffee producers in the region. 

Aspiring to attain product excellence, Jun also participated in the 2019 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition. The Robusta entry in which he and farmer Flor Junco enrolled was given the special citation as the Best Wet Processing Method - Robusta Category. 

 7R Coffee is available in different pasalubong centers and grocery stores in the region. It is also being sold by a distributor in Manila.
