In 2020, the world was shocked and moved by the COVID-19 virus that changed the ways of life. Driven by a need to answer the need of the times, and in close coordination with other Fablabs in the country, the Fablab UP Cebu prototyped, developed, and produced Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for our brave Filipino medical front liners fighting the war against Covid-19.
Through the synergized efforts of DTI in partnership with the University of the Philippines and a few notable public and private organizations, FabLab UP Cebu has extended its help to essential workers fighting the current pandemic by providing a good amount of face shields to several hospitals and institutions around Cebu. In late March alone, FabLab UP Cebu has produced 1,762 face shields.
On top of the fabricated face shields, the FabLab UP Cebu is currently in the stage of developing a much more improved, innovative and sturdy prototypes of PPE suits tailor-fit for the medical workplace.
For these PPEs, the Fablab UP Cebu is collaborating with Cebu Technological University (CTU) campuses in Tuburan, Argao and Danao City, and the City of Bogo for the SSF-Fablabs and Digifab.
Together, they have produced 20,953 PPEs with the support of DTI and other public and private organizations.
